South Bend officer retiring after 39 years

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- South Bend Officer Derek Dieter is retiring from the police force.

His son posted the news Saturday on Twitter.

It reads, "Congrats to my dad who's retiring today after 39 years of being a police officer.  There's no one that worked harder than him during those 39 years.  I wouldn't be where I am today without his hard work."

Dieter is the Vice President of the City Council.
