South Bend Police announce death of retired officer

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department announced retired officer David Turk passed away on Sunday at the age of 60.
Back in 2019, Officer Turk was recognized for how he took care of students at South Bend’s Success Academy.
Officer Turk worked as an off-duty officer at the school, helping kids safely cross the street. He was well-known for passing out snacks to the kids as they crossed.
ABC57 spent time with Turk as he was working at the school, and it’s evident from his interactions that he was well-loved by his community.
Turk retired from the South Bend Police Department in January 2020 after 32 years.
