ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The South Bend Police Athletic League hosted its Summer Kickoff Cookout a bit earlier this year.
The cookout lets families meet officers and learn about the Police Athletic Program and the impact it has on the community.
Initially, the program was launched back in 2006 as a way to bring sports mentoring to communities – especially with schools being out in the summer.
About 500 people signed up to join at today’s event, but the South Bend Police Athletic League is expecting more to sign up throughout the summer.
