SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police logs identify the officer and the man who was shot by the officer on Elwood Avenue Tuesday evening.
At around 6 p.m., officer Samuel Chaput was called to the 1300 block of Elwood to investigate reports of an unwanted person.
Shortly after the officer arrived, he came in contact with the unwanted person, identified in logs as 27-year-old Terrance Eppenger.
Eppenger was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Chaput was also taken to the hospital. He was treated and released.
The County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating.
