ST.JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.— The South Bend Police is investigating a robbery that took place inside a 7-Eleven gas station Monday morning in downtown South Bend.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers arrived to the 500 block of E. LaSalle for a robbery at around 6:30 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they searched the area looking for the suspect.

“The victim told police that an unknown white male had robbed her, Christine Karsten, the South Bend Police Department Media Liaison said. “Our officers then scoured the area looking for the suspect or anything. They came up with nothing, which indicates he possibly left in a vehicle relatively fast afterwards.”

ABC57 obtained the surveillance footage of the incident from police. In the video, a man is seen wearing a ball cap and a white t-shirt. He is standing next to a woman at the cash register and after the woman pays the cashier, the man lunges at her and starts assaulting her.

“It makes me disgusted that there’s people out here prying on weak people and stealing from them,” said Dan Newman, a South Bend Resident.

The suspect is described as six feet tall with blondish hair and a buzz type haircut. He was wearing light colored jean shorts and a white shirt. But the police department wants to remind the public that your safety is way more important than anything,

“So if someone is trying to steal something from you, we encourage you to just let it up. Because like I said, your life is so much more important than anything else that you own,” Karsten said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Michiana Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP or 800-342-STOP or the South Bend Police Department Investigative Bureau at 235-9263.
