SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Police Department gave the public an inside look at the "new and improved" South Bend Police Department Transparency Hub on Wednesday, the purpose of which is to allow citizens to view policing policies and a breakdown of crime data.
Officials say this will allow anyone in the community to easily access that information.
Police Chief Scott Ruzkowski explained the openness benefits both residents and the department.
And like the name suggests, it allows the police department to maintain transparency with the people they serve.
Chief Ruzkowski stated, "So whether you love police, whether you hate police, or whether you're somewhere in between, doesn't matter, you're still you still should have the information about what we're doing. I answer just like all our officers, to the public, to our community. They should have input on the things that we do or are not doing and listen to them. This is the opportunity."
While Wednesday was about showing people how the new hub works, police officials say it was also about collecting feedback on how they can improve the new tool and make it easier to use too.
