South Bend receives technology fellowship

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced a new partnership to help move the city forward, technologically.

The city was one of nine selected for the Code for America Fellowship.

Three of the country's top programmers will move to South Bend to collaborate with city leaders and develop smart-phone apps to address city government issues.

"I think ordinary residents are going to see more efficient and effective government services," Buttigieg said. "They're going to have more transparency and more ability to get data about a city that after all they own."

The fellows are set to start next month.

Private and non-profit organizations raised $200,000  to help pay for the program.
