SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Venues Parks and Arts announced Wednesday the River Lights in downtown will turn blue and gold Wednesday evening and Thursday morning in remembrance of Ara Parseghian.
While head football coach at the University of Notre Dame, Coach Parseghian led the team to two national championships.
Parseghian died early Wednesday morning.
“Among the many unique features of the South Bend River Lights is their capacity to capture our community's collective emotion at any given time. Turning them blue and gold tonight is a unique way for us to honor a local hero and national legend,” says Aaron Perri, Executive Director of Venues Parks & Arts.
The South Bend River Lights turn on a half hour before sunset and stay on until sunrise.
The River Lights will not be interactive during the special lighting display.
