South Bend roadwork starting Monday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - South Bend Department of Public Works plans street closures and traffic restrictions starting Monday, May 8, for Campeau Street, Notre Dame Avenue, South Bend Avenue Intersection, Miami Street, and North Shore Drive, weather permitting.

The intersection of Campeau Street, South Bend Avenue, and Notre Dame Avenue will close as Phase 2 of the Campeau Streetscape Project gets underway.

The project includes new curbs, sidewalks, bumpouts, pavement, storm sewers and streetlights.

Campeau Street and South Bend Avenue at Notre Dame Avenue will be a raised, four-way stop intersection.

Detour routes will be Howard and Cedar Streets via Eddy Street/State Route 23 and the intersection is expected to reopen mid-July, weather permitting.

Paving will start on Miami Street from Ireland Road to Calvert Street. Miami Street will remain open during paving but will be restricted.

Motorists should expect major travel delays and are reminded to slow down and use caution when driving through construction zones. Paving is expected to be complete by Friday, May 26, weather permitting.

North Shore Drive from Michigan Street to Angela Boulevard Street will close for the installation of three speed humps.

Detour routes will be Michigan Street or Angela Boulevard. The street is expected to reopen Wednesday, May 17 weather permitting.
