NOW: South Bend’s Ridgedale neighborhood prepares for community meeting following string of break-ins

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—- Community members, leaders, and the South Bend Police Department are coming together to discuss recent crimes in the Ridgedale Neighborhood.

Bringing the community together at Ling Stones Church after the scary string of events the neighborhood has fallen victim to this past week, including break ins that occurred while families were home in bed, and one alleged abduction where a young woman was forced to get into her car and drive to the nearest ATM and take out money at gunpoint.

Neighbors say that incident can be seen in surveillance video obtained from a local business near the GOLO gas station on Miami.

The man then went separate ways from the woman walking back into the early morning. Which left the neighborhood neighbors describe as quiet and tight knit, feeling uneasy the past week.

5th District Council Member Eli Wax represents and resides in the area where most of these incidents have taken place.

He hopes the meeting will leave the community feeling a sense of relief, after they come together to ask questions, share precautionary tips, and hope to receive updates from the South Bend Police on the ongoing investigation.

"That feeling of comradery and that we are coming together, and out to help each other. If everyone's keeping an eye out, we aren’t alone in this and that’s really a comforting thing for a lot of people,” said Wax before the meeting.

ABC57 will keep you updated on the meeting and topics discussed.
