South Bend Schools superintendent retiring at end of school year

The Superintendent of South Bend Schools announced she will be retiring at the end of the school year, according to a press release from the district.

Dr. Carole Schmidt was named interim superintendent in July 2011 and took the position permanently in November 2011.

Dr. Schmidt will be leaving at the end of the school year.

Last week I submitted a letter of my intent to retire my position as Superintendent of the South Bend Community School Corporation, effective June 30, 2016.  During the past four years that I've had the pleasure of serving as superintendent of the South Bend Community School Corporation, I have witnessed many dedicated teachers and parents, and served with a staff that truly cares about providing quality learning for every student every day. I have been blessed to have spent my entire career in public education and will continue to be a champion for it in the next phase of my personal and professional life.
