Women in the South Bend area are taking a proactive approach towards their safety.
Kodiak Firing Range and Training Facility hosts a self-defense class geared towards women every weekend.
Their class is offered for what they say is preparation to protect yourself if necessary.
“We want to give women tools and people in general in our facility things to be able to protect themselves” says John Pemberton Chief Instructor at Kodiak Firing Range and Training Facility.
Students of the class say they’re happy this training is offered.
The class was likened to to other safety precautions that are a part of everyday life.
“I look at this training whether it’s unarmed, knife defense, gun defense, or whatever the case may be as a fire extinguisher or a spare tire. I don’t know if I’m ever going to need this training and I hope that I don’t but I want to be prepared in case I do says Pemberton.
The class takes place every Saturday afternoon and an introductory lesson is offered for beginners.
