South Bend woman escapes after abduction

LAPORTE, Ind. -- A South Bend woman was located in Michigan City Wednesday evening after escaping her abductor, according to La Porte Police.

Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, LaPorte Police were called to the 200 block of Pine Lake Avenue to investigate reports a woman jumped out of a truck and was screaming.

When police arrived, they found a 43-year-old South Bend woman crying and talking on her cell phone.

The victim told police she had been abducted and jumped from a truck.

The victim told police she was dropped off in Michigan City and told to clean a house.

She said she was bound by the wrists and forced into the truck. Police noted marks on her wrists consistent with being restrained.

When the truck got close to a fast food restaurant, she jumped out of the truck.

A witness said the truck was a white extended cab Dodge pickup truck headed west on Weller Avenue. She lost sight of it when it turned onto Central Avenue.

The witness said the man was a stocky white male with balding hair.
