South Florida police caught speeding in own traps

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Some South Florida police officers are in trouble for speeding.

Seven cops were caught speeding through toll plazas in their own speed traps. Some officers were written up, one even lost his police car for six months.

Another is accused of speeding 50 times in one year.  The police department says it's an alarming trend and they’re talking it seriously.

“The public knows we're sorry that it happened and we took immediate steps in discipline to send a message to the rest of the agency that we won't tolerate this and we don't want this to happen in the future,” said Sgt. Rodney Hailey.

The department said it is working on plans to crack down on speeding, including possibly installing GPS devices in police cars to help with dispatching.
