South Shore reminds passengers of mask mandate ahead of holiday weekend

The South Shore Line is reminding passengers of federal mask orders on public transportation as the Independence Day weekend approaches.

Passengers and employees on the South Shore Line are required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

This requirement follows federal orders put forth by the Transportation Security Administration from February 1 to September 13, 2021.

Masks must be worn in all South Shore Line stations and onboard trains in Indiana and Illinois.

South Shore Line employees will continue to enforce the mandate and passengers who do not comply are subject to removal from trains.

The South Shore Line will continue to provide free masks for those who need one.

Social distancing is also recommended on trains and at stations when possible.

Visit the South Shore Line’s website for more information.
