Southern Indiana fire kills five people

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ind. — Five people, including two children, are dead after a fire broke out at a home southern Indiana. Crawford County officials believe a wood burning stove sparked the flames Thursday morning.

Officials from the small town say this is heart-breaking to their community.

The sheriff says their family tried desperately to put out the flames.

"By the time he ran down there it was fully engulfed and tragedy unfolded after that," said Sheriff Tim Wilkerson.

The rural area is on a remote hilltop with no fire hydrants. Crews were forced to bring in water tankers.
