Southwest Enforcement Team arrests five in Benton Township drug bust

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- According to the Southwest Enforcement Team, detectives arrested five individuals on over a dozen drug-and-weapon-related charges in Benton Township on Monday.

Police reportedly initiated two traffic stops on the suspicion of drug possession and dealing as the suspects were leaving a known drug house located in the 14000 block of St. James Street.

A search warrant was granted and executed based on incriminating evidence found by police during the traffic stops.

Officers reportedly seized approximately 13 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, suspected LSD, psilocybin mushrooms and gathered evidence on several other drug-related paraphernalia.

Beyond drugs, reports say that detectives also confiscated a short barrel AR-style rifle with the serial number removed.

The Southwest Enforcement Team reportedly began the case in cooperation with Michigan State Police due to tips from concerned and anonymous neighbors.

All five arrested individuals are currently lodged at the Berrien County Jail.

Charges and arrest details are as follows:

  •  36-year-old Benton Township man was arrested for possession with intent to deliver approximately 130 grams of crystal methamphetamine, maintaining a drug vehicle and for a felony probation violation.
  • 39-year-old Benton Township man was arrested for possession with intent to deliver approximately 230 grams of crystal methamphetamine, maintaining a drug house and vehicle, felony firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • 42-year-old Benton Township woman was arrested for possession with intent to deliver crystal methamphetamine, maintaining a drug house and vehicle, possession of a short barrel rifle, felony firearms.
  • 19-year-old Benton Township man was arrested for possession with intent to deliver crystal methamphetamine, maintaining a drug house and vehicle, possession of a short barrel rifle, possession of a firearms with an obliterated serial number, felony firearms.
  • 39-year-old Benton Township woman was arrested for resisting and obstructing police, possession of a stun gun, and a local warrant.
