GOSHEN, Ind. -- Special Olympic Athletes from all across Northern Indiana laced up their basketball sneakers and played in a big regional tournament at Goshen high school.
49 games were played in a span of six hours, with a mix of five on five and three on three games occurring, in addition to skills as well.
Athletes of all abilities took to the court, not only showing off the power of Special Olympics, but surrounding themselves with the larger Special Olympics community which can help build lasting friendships and improve self-esteem.
"The community response has been amazing. We've had so many great volunteers and athletes," stated County Coordinator of Special Olympics Indiana-Elkhart County Shailyn Mathews.
The Special Olympics Organization is able to continue providing these opportunities to empower athletes through donations.
