Sponsor a southwest Michigan child in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
United Way of Southwest Michigan is supporting early childhood literacy alongside Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
United Way is asking the community to help support childhood literacy by sponsoring a child to participate in the Imagination Library program.
The program serves children from birth through age 5 with the goal of helping kids develop reading skills and be prepared for school.
Kids who are enrolled in the program will get a hand-picked, age-appropriate book delivered to their house every month until their fifth birthday.
Community members can sponsor a child in the program for up to five years:
- Sponsoring a child for one year
- 12 books - $25
- Sponsor a child for three years
- 36 books - $75
- Sponsor a child for the whole program (five years)
- 60 books - $125
Parton’s Imagination Library is free of charge to all children under age five, regardless of income. The cost for United Way to provide the program is $25 per child per year.
So far, more than 7,000 kids are enrolled in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.
United Way has a March goal of getting sponsorship for 250 kids for the full five years.
