ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Michiana-area college students and recent graduates of all majors have been invited by St. Joseph County legislators to apply for a paid internship with the Indiana House Republicans.

House interns would work in at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2023 legislative session, and would be paid bi-weekly at a rate of $800, according to State Representative, Dale DeVon.

The session begins in January and runs through April, with several internships open in various departments for college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent grads.

"Internships with the Indiana House of Representatives are a great way for Hoosier college students to hone their skills and build their resumes. This is real-world experience you can use to get an edge over the other job seekers," said DeVon.

Benefits of the internship include free parking at the Statehouse, career and professional development assistance and the opportunity to enroll in an Indiana government class.

Undergraduate interns will also be eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship.

Interns are expected to work full time, Monday through Friday as a part of the position.

According to State Representative Jake Teshka, students are encouraged to apply for internships related to their fields of study, with open positions in media relations, communications and legislative operations.

"As a former intern, I learned a lot about policy issues and public service from working at the Statehouse. I benefited from the experience in both my professional career and as an elected state representative," said Teshka.
