St. Joseph County releases road construction schedule

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Several St. Joseph County roads will be restriped, chipped, and other maintenance projects the week of July 29th, according to the County’s Department of Public Works.

Road striping will begin 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until the task is complete.

Drivers should be cautious of the road maintenance and allow time for the paint to dry.

The paint crew will have warning signs, cones, and shadow vehicles to direct traffic.

The following roads will be restriped:

  • Riley Road from SR 23 to Redwood Road
  • Quincy Road from Smilax Road to SR 23
  • Leeper Road from Walnut Road to SR 23
  • Riley Road from LaPorte County Line to Place Trail
  • Union Road from LaPorte County Line to Timothy Road
  • New Road from LaPorte County Line to Snowberry Road
  • Johnson Road from Strawberry Road to Crumstown Highway
  • Crumstown Trail from Railroad Tracks to Johnson Road
  • Peach Trail from Peach Road to SR 23
  • Ireland Road from SR 23 to City of South Bend
  • Johnson Road from Lilac Road to City of South Bend
  • Kern Road from Locust Road to City of South Bend
  • Kern Road from SR 23 to Sumption Trail
  • Roosevelt Road from SR 23 to Locust Road
  • Madison Road from Oak Road to Mulberry Road
  • Osborne Road from Oak Road to SR 931

The roads that will be chip and sealed will be shut down for two hour periods.

Workers will assign detour signs as they work on the road, according to the Public Works department.

The following roads will be chip and sealed from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Douglas Road from Bittersweet Road to Beech Road
  • Harrison Road from Blackberry Road to Beech Road
  • Dogwood Road from Kern Road to Dragoon Trail
  • Elm Road from Ireland Road to Dragoon Trail
  • Inwood Road from Apple Road to Ash Road
  • Kern Road from Elm Road to Ash Road
  • Hickory Road from Nicar Road to New Road
  • Nicar Road from End of Road East to SR 331
  • Some roads will receive grinding and grading operations. They will be closed through traffic from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Hickory Road from Nicar Road to New Road
  • Nicar Road from End of Road east to SR 331
  • Ash Road from Kern Road north to End of Road
  • Ash Road from Madison Road to Roosevelt Road

Other projects will be active beginning July 29th in St. Joseph County, but flaggers will be utilized to help local traffic through.

The roads with other maintenance projects are:

  • Dogwood Road from Kern Road to Dragoon Trail
  • Kern Road from Elm Road to Ash Road
  • Gilmer Park South Subdivision
  • Dice Street
  • Gilmer Street
  • Pulling Street
  • Scott Street
  • River Gardens Subdivision
  • Crescent Drive
  • Guernsey Avenue
  • Zook's Subdivision
  • Farmington Square Subdivision
  • Brendon Hills Subdivision
  • Granger's Oak Ridge Subdivision
  • Pleasant Valley Subdivision

Walsh & Kelly, Inc. will be closing Bittersweet Road between McKinley Highway and Day road from Wednesday to Friday to replace culvert.

The following roads will be paved throughout the week, according to Walsh & Kelly, Inc.:

  • Cherry Road from Adams Road to State Line - Wednesday
  • Anderson Road from Chestnut Road to Bittersweet Road – Thursday, Friday
  • Bittersweet Road from Railroad Tracks north of McKinley Highway to Day Road – Monday
  • Walsh & Kelly, Inc. will also close roads for other maintenance.
  • Pine Road from Crumstown Highway to SR 2 - Monday to Friday.
  • Osborne Trail from LaPorte County Line to Snowberry Road - Tuesday to Tuesday

St. Joseph County appreciates drivers patience and wants to remind everyone to be courteous of workers.
