ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved to have the county’s Special Victims Unit continue to investigate sex crimes against children.
This same resolution was also passed and approved earlier by the South Bend City Council.
Beginning in 2003, Mishawaka and South Bend will now continue with the unit’s operations.
“These two different segments of crimes, sex offenses and child abuse, it is absolutely vital that all of us work together to be able to hold those accountable and get good help for our victims of those crimes,” said Ken Cotter, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor.
With some modifications, the unit will be made up of nine people. Two officers will be from the South Bend Police Department and one officer from both the Mishawaka and St. Joseph County departments.
