ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety wants residents to be aware of a fox with mange mite in the area of Lakeshore Drive, South State and Wallace Avenue.

Berrien County Animal Control has attempted to capture the fox using a live trap, but has been unsuccessful.

Animal Control believes the fox will likely die in the fall due to the mange mite.

Although the fox is generally harmless, animal control says it could become aggressive if it is attacked by another animal or a person.

It is also recommended if you live in the area where the fox has been spotted, you keep any pet food or food related trash out of your yard and secured in a trash container.

If you encounter the fox, you are asked to contact the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety or Berrien County Animal Control. You can contact either agency through Berrien County Central Dispatch at 269-926-2538.
