State employee charged with theft

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- An Indiana man must repay nearly $200,000 he stole from government programs.

Robert Edwards was supposed to be helping others but he decided to help himself.

Pleading guilty to to federal theft charges, Edwards was sentenced to three years and five months in prison.

Edwards and two others were accused of creating fake EBT cards and using over 100 names. The theft was primarily from food stamp funds.

State officials discovered the thefts but turned them over to federal authorities because the case involved federal funds.
