State police arrest kids accused of causing crashes

This week, Indiana State Troopers responded to several calls about objects being thrown from an overpass on Interstate 94 near County Road 900 in LaPorte County. C.R. 900 N is almost near the 49 mile marker on the freeway and is about one mile west of the Michigan state line.

Troopers responded to 24 complaints and 17 crash reports were taken. Pictures taken by officers show front windshields shattered where some type of object made impact.

On Wednesday, December 2, ISP had extra patrols in the area that had been targeted. Around 5:45 p.m., after receiving additional tips that more items were being thrown over a fence, officers found three bicycles hidden in the weeds along C.R. 900 N.

After searching the area, officers found two juveniles. They were immediately taken into custody, according to ISP.

Then a trooper and K-9 found two more juveniles about half a mile away. Police said they were hiding along a fence.

All the suspects were taken to the LaPorte County Juvenile Detention Center.

At this point, charges are pending.
