Structure fire reported along Lusher Avenue Wednesday night

ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Fire Department is investigating a structure fire that took place in the 1200 block of W. Lusher Avenue Wednesday night.

At 9:37 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to the area for a possible structure fire.

The first engine on scene reported heavy smoke coming from the front side of the structure.

Additional units arrived and the fire was under control within an hour.

The building housed an automotive repair shop and as firefighters were putting out the flames, units took note of run-off water containing automotive fluids.

The Hazmat team and other departments were called in to control the run-off. Clean-up took place after the fire was under control.

No civilians or firefighters were injured at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
