Student in custody after allegedly bringing kitchen knife to school

Elkhart Police say a 14-year-old student was taken into custody after a kitchen type knife was found in her backpack.

On Friday morning, several students alerted school administrators at North Side Middle School that a student had brought a kitchen type knife to school and concealed it in a backpack.

School administrators seized the knife and contacted the Elkhart Police.

The 14-year-old girl was taken into custody for possession of a knife on school property.

She is being held in the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing.
