Student still hasn't heard from family in Philippines

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. --Rebecca Nicolas is an Andrews University student in Berrien Springs but was born and raised in the Philippines. Ever since she heard the terrible news last Thursday that the storm had wiped out her home island, she's been frantically searching for her loved ones.

Nicolas grew up near Guiuan -a town about four hours away by car from the popular tourist destination of Tacloban.

She moved to Berrien Springs this summer to study early childhood education at Andrews University.

She says her father, mother, brother, sister and aunt are all in the Philippines and she hasn't heard from them since the storm hit last week.

She has been able to speak with another sister in Florida and a brother in Canada - and they're all hoping to get good news.

"I'm still hoping that because my parents were there, my heart really breaks because of my loved ones, my family," said Nicolas.
