Students at Rise Up Academy help to feed those in need

Students at Rise Up Academy in South Bend are taking on the task of feeding those in need.

Friday, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and students from the academy helped launch of Newman’s Own School Food Pantry.

It's funded in part by the sales of actor Paul Newman's food line. Students will take ownership of this pantry program by preparing the bags to take home each week.

"For what it takes for kids to recognize that their own generation needs help is very courageous and a real special thing so we couldn't be more excited to have the kids involved with this," said Milt Lee of the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

This is the first school-based pantry in the Food Bank of Northern Indiana's network.
