Man charged in deadly Elkhart hit & run case pleads guilty

ELKHART, Ind. -- The man accused of fleeing the scene of a deadly crash two years ago in Elkhart has pleaded guilty and is scheduled for sentencing next month.

Ronnie Hapner was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

The crash happened June 4, 2021 on Greenleaf Boulevard.

Police say they found 18-year-old Blaine Fisher dead on the road and 18-year-old Mckade Nielsen unresponsive.

Nielsen was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and survived.

Hapner pleaded not guilty to the charges and was scheduled to go on trial Aug. 28.

His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 7.
