Suspect in fatal shooting at gas station apprehended in Tennessee

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The man who allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old Shamar Barnes at a gas station last month has been taken into custody in Tennessee, according to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.

Darius K. Thomas, 26, was taken into custody on Thursday and will be held pending extradition to Indiana.

Thomas is facing one count of murder.

The shooting happened February 5 at a gas station in the 1200 block of S. Main Street.

Thomas was charged on February 8.
