Suspect in possession of a knife arrested after Dowagiac home invasion
DOWAGIAC, Mich.—The Dowagiac Police Department is investigating a home invasion that occurred on March 1, according to a post to the department’s Facebook page.
Officers were sent to an apartment complex in the 29000 block of Amerihost Drive regarding a home invasion in progress around 10:15 p.m.
The caller reported that an unknown man had kicked in the front door of an apartment and went inside.
According to police, the caller reported that a husband, wife, and three small children lived in the apartment.
The man was awoken by his wife and confronted the suspect in the living room and announced that he was armed with a handgun.
Police said the suspect then left the apartment and was arrested by responding officers near the building next door.
The 32-year-old male suspect from Buchanan was found to be in possession of a knife during the incident, police said.
Reports said the suspect told police he was outside in his car when he “thought he saw a female hanging from the balcony of the apartment,” explaining he broke into the apartment to check on her.
Investigation findings showed that there was never a woman on the balcony.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of home invasion and is expected in court on March 2.
No injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
