St. Joseph County Jail

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The suspect in a recent hit-and-run case in South Bend has received an additional charge.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office confirmed to ABC57 that 21-year-old Michael Pyburn will additionally be charged with Reckless Homicide after the crash victim, 20-year-old Josimar Perez-Gonzalez, died in the hospital.

The crash happened March 5 in South Bend at Portage and Leland Avenues. Investigators say Perez-Gonzalez was working on the side of the road when he was struck by a vehicle.

Investigators say they allegedly found front-end damage to a car driven by Pyburn consistent with Perez-Gonzalez's injuries. Pyburn was also found to have never received a driver's license; multiple Xanax tablets were found in his sock upon arrest.

Pyburn is also charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Moderate or Serious Bodily Injury, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, all felonies.
