Tapes scandal lawyers set to release statements

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It's deadline day for attorneys on both sides of the South Bend tape recording scandal.

Lawyers are expected to submit their "joint statement of facts" to Federal Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen Friday.

The city has spent over $600,000 of taxpayer money to settle lawsuits related to the scandal.

For that reason, several citizens and officials are adamant about hearing the tapes.

Then the judge will hear oral arguments at a bench trial the morning of August 12th.

The judge will determine whether or not the tapes will be released to the public.
