Teen arrested after stolen vehicle found at gas pump

ELKHART, Ind. – A teenager was arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle found at a gas station on Wednesday, the Elkhart Police Department reported.

At 4:54 p.m., an officer was called to a gas station in the 900 block of North Nappanee Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

That vehicle, a Kia Sportage, was left at a pump and the vehicle’s occupants had left.

The officer ran the license plate and discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen, reports said.

The person who reported the vehicle at the gas station told police that six teenagers had exited the vehicle and walked westbound on California Road.

Another officer located the teenagers in the parking lot of a high school at 5 p.m.

Officers identified the juvenile who allegedly drove the vehicle and arrested him for possession of stolen property, reports said.

The teenager was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
