Teen cyclists killed after being hit by car

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Two teens were killed after being hit by a car while riding their bicycles along County Road 20 near the intersection of Pleasant Plain Avenue just before 6 a.m. on Thursday.

David Anglemyer, 18, and Danny Runion, 19, were pronounced dead on the scene.  Runion’s mother told ABC57 that the teens were riding from her home in Osceola to the house where Anglemyer stayed with his sister in Goshen.

"He got along wonderful with all the kids, he sat outside with them, we have a 12-year-old and he would play the Xbox with him, he hung out with him, it's kind of hard to believe he's gone, he’s just a great kid,” described Michelle Amaya who lived downstairs from Anglemyer with her family.  “I don't know how I'm going to handle it, the hard part is my 12-year-old I think is coming up the road and I'm going to have to tell him one of his best friends just passed away."

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident, Runion’s mother explained to ABC57 that officials told her the car had been driving the opposite direction from the teens, crossed the center line and hit them head on.

No word yet on a cause of the accident or if charges will be filed against the driver of the car.
