Teen driver loses control, rolls car, injuring self and passenger

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the front yard of 29752 Old US 20 east of Riverview Manor Drive on Sunday around 8:04 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash involving two juveniles.
The report states a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by a 17-year-old Elkhart boy, was traveling east on Old US 20 at an unsafe speed.
Authorities say that's when he lost control before driving off the south side of the road and crashing into a large rock in the front yard of a residence.
The car rolled several times before coming to a stop upside down about 10 feet from the road.
The driver was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for a minor head injury and possible broken nose.
The 17-year-old driver's passenger, a 15-year-old Elkhart boy, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for minor abrasions to his chest and arms.
The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team also responded to the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.
The driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, while his passenger was.
No citations were given at the time of the crash.
