Teens spread the holiday spirit to those in need

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Teenagers from St. Pius Church in Granger gave back to their community on Saturday.

The teens helped unload hundreds of presents for the children at St. Adalbert's Parish on the West Side.

The gifts are given to struggling families to help them celebrate Christmas.

"It also gives the teens the opportunity to take part in something bigger than themselves," said Tara Schmidt, director of youth ministry at St. Pius. "They get to spread the idea and everything that goes with the concept of spreading hope in a different way to the greater community."

The two churches are sister parishes--which means they help each other out financially or in any other way possible.
