Texas boy uses PS4 money to buy smoke detectors

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A fire that claimed the lives of a mother and her son inspired a Texas boy to go on a mission to save lives.

Hector Montoya, 8, had been saving up to buy a PlayStation 4.

But after learning about the deadly fire, he decided to use the money to purchase smoke detectors.

And with the help of the local fired department, he has installed nearly 100.

"I was saving the $300 for a PS4. But I said saving a life is more important. It really hurts my heart to see people die in a fire. It really does," said Montoya.

Montoya put the detectors into the homes of the elderly and people who reminded him of the mother and son.
