On Tuesday, we saw some heavy lake effect bands set up over Michiana. While some of us were experiencing whiteout conditions, along with large snowfall rates, others were seeing blue skies and sunshine! It all depended on where you were in relation to the band moving through your area.
In the morning, eastern South Bend, Mishawaka, Osceola, and Niles were experiencing the heavy snow while the western side of South Bend was in the sunshine. This drastic change in conditions produced a wide variation in snowfall totals. In some spots, especially, east of South Bend, amounts changed dramatically from community to community. For instance, Indian Village, near Mishawaka, saw about 6.4" from yesterday's event, while the South Bend airport saw only 3"!
After it all, the Michigan counties and areas east of Hwy 31 saw the largest amounts of snow, but Michiana is not out of the woods yet as more snow chances are in the forecast for the rest of the work week.
