SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Gem, Mineral, and Jewelry Show hit the 4-H Fairgrounds in South Bend today, Aug. 18, attracting people from all over the world to come show off their precious gems.
The show happens annually, with this year being their 61st edition.
"Today is our 61st annual Michiana gem and mineral show. We have vendors that come in from all of the United States. We also have a couple vendors from Mexico and from Australia. We do that. Like I said, we've been doing this for 61 years. We bring people in from the area. They come in, they're excited, they look around. But the biggest thing we have, it's an educational thing for us," stated Ross Fergerson the President of the Michiana Gem and Mineral Society.
Fergerson continued, "The money that we use for this goes to our educational outreach. We go to schools, we go to churches, we've gone to libraries. We've done Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownie scouts, whatever they have as far as that. "
There were also fossils and meteorites shown off at this event as well.
