SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Bend School Corporation’s Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings held a virtual information session on Tuesday, answering questions from concerned parents and staff on the proposed innovation zone of Muessel Elementary and Marquette Montessori Academy.
The corporation proposes the change by the fall of this year, as district leaders see this as an opportunity for a “baseline reset” of the state’s F-grade.
Dr. Cummings stated, “I am not recommending turning Muessel or Marquette into charter schools. The innovation is a state statute that allows the board and myself to improve underperforming schools.”
Officials stated they want to adjust immediately as they no longer want students in failing schools.
A final decision on the innovation zone is to be made by March 1st.
