The Tolson Center hosts their first Christmas Posada celebration

ELKHART, Ind-- The Christmas Posada will kick off at four on Dec. 19. This event will be held at the Tolson Center for the first time this year! They expect at least six hundred people to attend the event, filing the space with pinatas, food, treats, a DJ, and a live nativity scene! 

George Vasquez son of owners of DeliaMar Mega Shop says this celebration goes way back. "It is originally a Catholic Spanish celebration of the Nativity scene. It celebrates the journey of Mary and Joseph in finding shelter and just acceptance to stay somewhere to deliver baby Jesus. It was brought to Mexico around the 1600s early 1600s and so now it is celebrated as Remembrance, commemoration and just celebration of being with family" 

ABC57's Sidney Moore spoke with Delia Grajeda, Owner of DeliaMar Mega Shop who says while this event stems from Catholic roots, it is for anyone to attend! 

 “Aquí, todo el mundo es bienvenido. Queremos compartir realmente con toda nuestra comunidad. No importa donde seas, quien seas, el color que tengas. Lo que nos importa es que estén con nosotros."

( English Translation: "Here, the whole world is invited. We want to share this with all of our community. It doesn’t matter where you are from, who you are, the color of your skin. What’s important is that you are here with us.")

The event is free to the public and will have fun to offer for all ages!
