Three people in hospital after crash in Cass County Sunday

A one-car accident in Cass County leaves three people in the hospital, one with serious injuries on Sunday night.

Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Bellows Road in Porter Township.

According to a family member, 18-year-old Nicholas Meuzelaar of Edwardsburg was driving on a curve when he drove over a pothole and lost control of the vehicle, causing him to hit a tree.

Deputies say Meuzelaar became trapped in his vehicle and responders were able to remove him from the automobile.

Meuzelaar’s sister says he had been airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of two broken legs, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Two other people were in vehicle at the time of the accident, 18-year-old Taylor Hairell and a 15-year-old passenger.

Hairell and the other passenger were transported to Elkhart General Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

All passengers were wearing seatbelts.

Deputies say the accident remains under investigation.
