Three police officers injured in separate incidents

Three police officers were injured Thursday morning in two separate incidents, just a few hours apart.

Around 1:30 a.m., Memorial Hospital officers were trying to break up a fight in the parking garage.

One of the officers was struck, then dragged by a fleeing vehicle, police said.

The officer was injured, but returned to duty.

Around 4:15 p.m., South Bend Police responded to a business on S. Michigan Street for an unwanted person.

When officers approached the man he began punching one of the officers, then grabbed two screwdrivers, reports said.

An officer attempted to deploy a taser, but it was ineffective, police said.

The man then attacked officers, which caused the suspect and officers to fall.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

One of the officers suffered broken bones in their face, the other suffered a hand injury.

The suspect was not injured.
