Three shootings reported in South Bend on Tuesday
South Bend Police and St. Joseph County Police are investigating three separate shootings in South Bend on Tuesday.
The first shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of N. Illinois Street.
When South Bend Police arrived, they located a man matching the description of the shooting suspect and chased after him.
Police say during the chase, 22-year-old Denzel Givens pulled a handgun from his waistband and threw it on the roof of a business.
Givens was taken into custody in the 3600 block of W. Western Avenue.
Police retrieved the gun.
Givens was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun without a license and resisting arrest.
Givens is being held with no bond at the St. Joseph County Jail.
The second shooting happened just after 2 p.m. and was investigated by St. Joseph County Police.
The shooting happened on Fillmore Road just west of Mayflower Road.
Police said no one was reported as injured in the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.
The third shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. South Bend Police say 27-year-old David Hughes was shot in the arm during an argument at a home in the 300 block of N. Johnson.
David Payton, Hughes' roommate, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
Hughes was treated at the hospital and released.
Payton is being held in the jail without bond.
In addition to the three shootings, a shooting victim showed up to Memorial Hospital around 2 p.m.
Police say 19-year-old John Williams showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound, but would not cooperate with the investigation.
He was treated and released.
