Tractor overturns and kills driver South Bend

The Saint Joseph County Police department is investigating an accidental death that occurred Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3:58 p.m. at a residence in the 52000 block of Laurel Road in South Bend.

Police received a call about a tractor that had overturned, trapping the driver underneath.

After arriving at the scene, patrol officers and passerby Patrick Hall were able to push the large tractor off the victim, 55-year-old Michael Michaels of South Bend.

He was then pulled away from the tractor, and immediately treated by police with life-saving techniques.

A short time later, it was determined the male was deceased.

Police believe Michaels was moving large trees with the tractor when the accident occurred.  

Officials would like to commend Hall for stopping to call 911 and assisting officers as well as the officers for their quick response and life-saving efforts.
