JASPER COUNTY, Ind. -- A trailer loaded with frozen bagels caught fire while traveling on I-65 in Jasper County Sunday evening, according to the Indiana State Police.

An off-duty trooper was traveling southbound on I-65 around 5:40 p.m. when the trooper spotted a semi traveling northbound that was smoking heavily from its rear axle.

The trooper turned around and stopped the semi near the 209.5 mile marker.

By the time the trooper stopped the semi, the brakes were on fire and spreading to the trailer. The rear tires exploded due to the heat.

The trailer was carrying 38,000 pounds of frozen bagels.

The right lane of I-65 was closed until approximately 1 a.m. because of the trailer removal and cleanup of the roadway.
