Trees being cut down in construction zone upset residents

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A construction project has some people in South Bend very upset.

The city is putting in sewers and curbs along  Washington Street.

Folks are upset because crews cut down several mature trees that don't appear to be in the way of the project.

Upset neighbors contacted council members who said the plans are changing.

"By email, this morning and I talked to an enginger this morning after Dr. Furlic interviened in the situation," said Larry Clifford, an upset neighbor.

We tried to ask the city about the project on Thursday afternoon, but did not hear back.

Approved plans for the street are quite extensive and include new sidewalks, as well as resurfacing parts of the street.
