Truck leaks animal fat onto LaPorte roads

Hundreds of gallons of animal fat leaked out of a tanker truck onto Severs Road near CR 39 in LaPorte County Tuesday morning.

The liquid fat sent cars slipping and sliding on the roads.

Officials say a motorcyclist stopped at a stop sign, lost his footing and laid down his bike.

Jeff Hamilton, the Director of LaPorte County Emergency Planning, says crews put sand on the road to help soak up the liquid.

The crews will be back out on Wednesday cleaning up the sand.

The driver of the tanker truck, which was leaving HRR Enterprises was cited for failure to secure the truck's load.

The liquid was spilled for a distance of about three miles.
